Unrealistic expectations at work you wouldn’t meet even if you denounce sleeping on one side with the chaos of your private life on the other bring you to the point when you start feeling like a hamster rolling in a rolling ball from which it’s hard to find the way out and losing sleep over it is imminent. The fact is if you don’t know how to relax, stress will, without a doubt, slowly begin taking its toll, both mentally as well physically. Your health will be ruined, and the image of what once was a cheerful and pleasant person will fade away. Apart from losing your health, you’ll also lose some dear people around you. Personally, when I’m in that place, I like to remember a saying my granny would often say to me: “When God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window.” This means – there is ALWAYS a way out, the “only” thing left for you to do is to find it. Therefore, just relax. Only a minute of rest a day makes a difference when it comes to the health of the nervous system, and think how good would it be to find even more time to “reset” in entirety – this would ensure one crucial thing – you being able to resist any stressful situation.
Have a good-morning-cup of tea
Most teas contain theine, and it is a well-known fact tea helps relax. For instance, a cup of nice chamomile tea will help you get rid of that overwhelming feeling of anxiety. You can have a cup of green or black tea in the morning to soothe your mind (neurotransmitters in the brain) and help you wake up as well.
Stop and take a deep breath!
When we are under pressure our breathing is shallow and accelerated and some people may even lose breath. This is actually a consequence of oxygen deprivation (in the brain) which causes, among other things, even greater anxiety. Only a minute will be enough to relax: close your eyes and take a deep breath, meaning, inhale 2 – 3 seconds and then exhale for 3 – 4 seconds.
A couple of pieces of chocolate WILL make you happier!
True. A couple of pieces of chocolate will make you happier, researchers claim 6.7 grams a day is enough (almost half a bar a week), however, this refers only to dark chocolate, i.e. chocolate with high cocoa content because milk chocolate doesn’t contain the amount of polyphenols required to obtain health benefits. Remember to stop after these few pieces! In 2 weeks you’ll notice how much happier you begin to feel thanks to reduced level of stress hormone (cortisol). You’ll become yourself again – more relaxed, joyful and satisfied. This has also been confirmed by numerous studies, so why not taking a nip of a delicious dark chocolate and enjoy?
Regular physical activity stimulates the secretion of noradrenaline, hormone acting substance which helps relieve stress. It has been scientifically confirmed that regular exercise enhances overall mood and energy levels. But, this doesn’t mean you have to sign up for a gym and then exercise until you drop. For a start, baby steps would be enough. It’s spring, so walk or choose some mild-intensity activities. Apart from relieving stress, exercising will also help you lose some weight and change your mindset for the better.
