Everyone knows that most of our favorite food products come in a diet version as well, also known under the term “light” foods. But, are these products really healthier and can we enjoy them without the fear of gaining weight?
The fact is commercials advocating light products are in many ways deceiving. First of all, skinny models advertise them, not the “real”, ordinary women and buyers as end consumers are get a wrong message that buying such product will ensure you a body of the model from that commercial. We assure you, light foods are in some cases just as bad as their “original” versions, and in some cases, even worse.
What do you think, why light foods are harmful?
Let me explain you this on an example of foods such as light mayo, dairy spreads, creams and similar. Light versions of these products include adding water before everything. However, other than fat, such products contain only a small amount of good ingredients. However, since water and fat (oil) don’t mix, additives are a must to get the satisfying consistency and texture of this product. All being said, it’s obvious that this kind of product is neither nearly as healthy as one may think and can, in turn, affect your nice figure. Another thing is also deceiving. Eating light foods leads us to the belief that these foods are low in calorie just as they are in fat so we end up eating more, thus bringing more calories than we would have in the first place.
Furthermore, one of the biggest traps of light foods is fruit yoghurt, very popular among everyone, children in particular. In their case, “light” stands for the absence of fat, hence the flavor. But, manufacturers have thought of that as well – by adding piles of sugar and – calories too. So each time you crave a juicy sandwich with a dressing such as mayo, or you are really in for a fruit yoghurt, bear in mind the fact that you are doing more harm to your body than good. Prepare fruit yoghurt at home, it’s easy. Take regular yoghurt and some fruit, banana, for instance, slice it and toss and just enjoy! If you need fat, it’s better to choose nuts and add them to the yoghurt. Read labels carefully and make sure you don’t bring into your body more bad stuff than the good ones or you can easily jeopardize your health, which has been proved by a number of studies so far.
