Although I haven’t been the fan of this meal all of my life, over time I’ve learned to appreciate it because I’ve realized how good it is when it comes to my health and slim figure. The dish I’m referring to is a traditional part of any meal and the basis of a healthy diet. Its core role is to heal and restore body’s systems. Perhaps you’ve realized by now – it is the soup we are talking about, an ideal ally for weight loss and weight management, and do you wish to know why?
Soup most often denotes the first dish of a course menu, apart from appetizers and similar. This dish is followed by the main meal (comprises high-density foods such as meat, dairies, fats etc.), usually being more difficult to digest and containing more calories. Soups, however, are water-based dishes and belong to low-energy density foods. This means that we can eat more such foods without fearing we’ll introduce too many calories. Soup has enormous satiation potential, meaning soup preloads may significantly affect (reduce) meal energy intake. Moreover, it stimulates digestion and softens stool.
Besides, soup can be a savory dish at any time of the year. It helps us to beat the cold during winter while in summer provides us with all the electrolytes we lose via sweating. Soups are, on the top of all, very nutritious and regardless of the type, vegetable or meat ones, are full of micronutrients and macronutrients. Meat soups are rich in proteins and minerals like iron and zinc while vegetable soups contain a lot of fiber, vitamins and phytonutrients. Also, if you ever experienced a hangover, then you perhaps may already know that soup is a key to recovery, particularly if made from tomatoes. Therefore, the next time someone offers you a nice homemade soup, think of it as the best meal deal you could possibly get.
