Frequently we hear about face toners and the reasons why we should include them in our everyday beauty routine. This time, we bring you a recipe for making the best natural toner with the help of well-known miracle worker – green tea.
What is toner and why do we need it?
Face toner is a liquid which is applied after the facial cleansing. It is not used as a makeup remover or facial cleanser, instead, its role is to restore the natural pH of skin after cleansing. This is very important to know because when the pH balance is disrupted, it means the skin is more vulnerable to bacterial invasion. Apart from that, the toner can have other roles, including hydration, tightening pores or removing sebum.

DIY: Natural green tea toner
Here is how you can make your own natural green toner:
Buy green tea in a drugstore, tea house or any similar specialized store making sure it’s organic and in leaves. The price is a bit higher than the one normally found in supermarkets for instance, but benefits are far bigger.
Put one tablespoon of green tea in a dish you’ve previously washed in hot water. Cover the tea with 1.5 dl of natural spring water. The water should be at temperature 70 °C. When you notice the bubbles have started to make, it is a sign that the water is ready. If you don’t want to buy spring water, just boil tap water and leave it to cool for about 5 – 10 minutes. Then cover with a little plate and leave the tea to sit for 5 – 10 minutes.
In the meantime, prepare a small bottle where you’ll keep the toner.
Pour the boiling water in this bottle and shake it. This will help you eliminate bacteria. The bottle should be made of glass. Once the tea is cool, pour it into the bottle and add a few drops of lemon juice. This will prevent oxidation of the tea but is also effective for removing dark spots on the skin.
Use natural green toner in the morning and in the evening after facial cleansing but before applying a cream. Keep it in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. Make a new one afterwards.
